Oil top up mini cooper

I have owned two Mini's, an '02 R53 and a '12 R58, and have only had issues with the turbo. The R58 is a JCW and burns through oil like crazy. Mini has told me repeatedly that i need to check my oil every 1000 miles. Its ridiculous that i need to check it when Mini's recommended oil change interval is 5000-10000.
